AMERICAN POSTAL WORKERS UNION

In this student project, the American Postal Workers Union wanted to create a poster campaign utilizing iconography to promote action regarding their several campaigns with the theme of stopping USPS privatization from happening. The series uses symbology to deliver an impactful message and cause resonance with the audience. Taking stance from the Union’s typical method of activism the posters are not afraid to call it how they see it and address corruption smartly. This series encompasses four posters each able to stand on their own as well as working as a collection with one poster being typographically focused and the other three relying on iconography.

In-Depth

This poster series informs and hopefully mobilizes a large group of people to action. The majority of people who are being targeted would identify themselves as working class as well as social activists. The posters are clear in their messaging but clever in the way it is expressed visually.

To accomplish this the series takes on the idea of the “return to sender” series, using this well-known postal marking as a form of protest to be used throughout the campaign. The return to sender iconography is used throughout with corresponding illustrations, typography, and other recognizable postal service symbols being re-appropriated to match the campaign. This campaign is impactful displays clear and concise statements and calls to action.
